Lectures on Philosophy of History

Hegel is the first philosopher who conceptualised history as a meaningful process rather than a mere collection of facts. In history, he discovered development, that is, an ascent from a lower stage to a higher one. The essence of this development is the growth of freedom—human society gradually realises that the individual, as such, is free, that every individual is free, and is compelled to structure its order in accordance with this knowledge. This is the progress of history.
